“Enduring happiness was only possible with equanimity. As long as our happiness depended on circumstances, it would be as fleeting and unreliable as the events themselves.”
~David Michie
If a man could leave his world of luxury to seek the true meaning of life, we certainly can’t define hashtag#wealth as our goal of hashtag#life. Siddhartha Gautama or the Buddha had left all that he had received so easily in life in search of liberation. After years of toil, struggle and self-introspection, he sought enlightenment. His wisdom grew, and one of the most essential lessons he taught us was that life is characterized by ‘dukkha’, the Sanskrit word for suffering. Even moments of hashtag#happiness eventually led to pain. We hold onto them as memories, longing for the moments of hashtag#joy gone by.
“Happily, the peaceful live, discarding both victory and defeat.”
~Buddha
So, are we looking for happiness? My dear friends, we are instead in search of hashtag#fulfillment. Have you ever felt like you are hashtag#happy and yet sad at the same time? Have you ever experienced the bewilderment of restlessness during a grand hashtag#celebration? “What’s wrong?”, you might ask. “Why don’t I feel complete at this very moment?”
It’s because we have led ourselves into believing that we are incomplete beings, while this is far from the truth. We are often chasing one dream after another. Our goals tend to get bigger, and we toil and struggle more until we achieve that which we chase.
Just like we chase happiness, so do we make all attempts to run away from sadness. We are caught up in the eye of a storm that clouds our hashtag#vision of the hashtag#truth.
Look at yourself as though you are standing in the center of a circle. The circle represents your zone of fulfillment. If your zone has come full circle, you are complete and have attained closure. This means that no sadness, pain, happiness or any other aspect of life can break that circle. Your sense of fulfillment helps you transcend beyond the longings of joy and the darkness of pain.
“Why are we here? We exist not to pursue happiness, which is fleeting, or outer accomplishment, which can always be bettered. We are here to nourish the self.”
~Deepak Chopra
This is why the Spiritual Quotient is most needed. Your Spiritual Quotient or hashtag#SiQ will help you realize how fulfilled and complete you already are in life. Until you allow this realization to dawn upon you, you may continue with the error of thinking that you are somehow incomplete and the way to rectify it lies through the pursuit of happiness and by satisfying your desires. Remember that all desires, stress, greed, and relentless chase in life start from the time you self-hypnotize yourself as being unfulfilled. Spiritual Quotient is the solution for coming of such self-hypnotism and waking up to reality.
So, it is not happiness that you seek nor is it the sadness that we must ward off. It is the subtle yet powerful impact of closure that we must endow within. Closing the circle of desire will allow us to finally understand the roar of the scriptures that clearly shows Who and What we are. An immortal soul.
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
~Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
