Swaroop versus Swabhaav versus Swadharam

The Oracle (pointing at the wall above Neo): “You know what that means? It’s Latin; means ‘Know Thyself’. I’m going to tell you a little secret. Being the one is just like being in love. No one can tell you you’re in love, you just know it, through and through, bones to bones.”

The Matrix movie was a craze back when it was released. The effects, the stunts, and the insane concept of a battle between humans and machines were new to everyone. The movie covered the relationship between the machine-like qualities within humans and human-like attributes in machines. Both sides display relentless determination akin to machines.

In the movie, Neo was the protagonist and his major issue was identifying the difference between reality and illusion. His second challenge was knowing what he was. It was intensely challenging for him to understand who and what he was when everything around him was either real or an illusion. This was even evident when he was sparring with Morpheus, his leader, who had to drive him to see reality.

Morpheus: “How did I beat you?”

Neo: “You’re too fast.”

Morpheus: “Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? You think that’s the air you’re breathing?”

Neo looks up at Morpheus

Morpheus: “What are you waiting for? You’re faster than this. Don’t think you are, know you are.”

The movie revolved around how humans become over-dependent on machines to solve their problems. It’s much like how humans depend on pretenses so that they do not have to face reality. Leaders, therefore, must beware of succumbing to such an attribute of shunning away the true sense of reality. If not, it can lead them to go through the ruts of life without knowing and achieving the true sense of what leadership is all about. A leader with a high SiQ can learn to first look within, and identify the self without which they wouldn’t be able to become a true Savant Leader.

“Knowing your true self is the beginning of all Wisdom.”

~Aristotle

A person’s intrinsic duty is to realize and learn knowledge of the self or Swarup. And your Swarup never changes, whereas your Swabhaav or personality changes. In fact, the word personality is derived from the Latin word persona, which refers to a theatrical mask worn by performers to play roles or disguise their identities. Hence, Swabhaav is your modified or conditioned attribute that is like a mask waiting to be removed. Much like how Neo had to shed his former self to realize his Swarup or intrinsic nature.

Your true duty or Swadharam is to know your reality and in the process remove the mask of past and present conditioning. This is the secret to transcendence of all our sorrows and the attainment of infinite bliss. The journey is not easy as the famous German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer said,

“It is difficult to find happiness within oneself, but it is impossible to find anywhere else.”

If you wish to realize your true self, Krescon Coaches can guide you to your personal journey of contemplation and free you from the shackles of assumptions and expectations.

“A man will be imprisoned in a room with a door that’s unlocked and opens inwards; as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push.”
